5G MEC + Hi-tech AR Tour

5G MEC + Hi-tech AR Tour

Science 960

Augmented reality (AR) combines virtual images with the real-world, overlaying one over the other in real time. This immersive experience is only possible when requirements for latency, bandwidth, and computing power are all met. AR supported by 5G MEC can be applied in a range of scenarios including industrial maintenance, simulated teaching, assistance for diagnoses and treatments, and museum guides.

The Wonderland of Mountains and Rivers, a hi-tech cultural touring service provided during the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 (Expo 2019), is a perfect example of how AR and 5G MEC can be combined. This service integrates a number of applications, including virtual vision, human-machine interaction, AR, and video streaming, on the 5G MEC platform, which is the world's first to be based on Huawei's Kunpeng architecture. Backed up by real-time synergy between sensing devices and applications, and supported by a high-bandwidth, low-latency network, the real-world environment can be heavily overlaid with virtual images. This provides visitors with a fantastic and fresh tour experience.
